e-Dant Seva

Today we shine a spotlight on e-Dant Seva, a downloadable app launched by the Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on October 7, 2019. It is an initiative under the National Oral Health Program and has been developed by the Centre for Dental Education and Research at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). The initiative aims to emphasize the importance of maintaining oral health. This marks an important milestone as e-DantSeva will reach out to more than one billion people with one click in the form of a dedicated website and mobile application. It is the first ever national digital platform on oral health information dissemination, the first of its kind in dental health in the world.

Oral health is indispensable for the well-being and good quality of life. Poor oral health negatively affects aspects of human development, and dental caries/cavities and periodontal disease remain the two most prevalent dental diseases of the Indian population. This initiative of the Ministry aims to sensitize the public about the significance of maintaining optimum oral health and equips them with the tools and knowledge to do so.

The website and mobile application provide oral health information and connect the public to timely advice for managing any dental emergency or oral health problem. e-DantSeva also has a unique feature called the ‘Symptom Checker’, which provides information on symptoms of dental/oral health problems, ways to prevent these, treatment modalities, and help direct the user to their nearest dental facility and provides GPS routes and satellite images of the facility for easier and quicker access during emergencies.

The objectives of e-Dant Seva is to improve determinants of oral health, which includes oral hygiene improvement, a healthy diet, and also to reduce disparity in oral health accessibility. The app can be downloaded via this link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eseva
